GEMS is MC Sharon's fifth studio project officially released on September 24th 2018. It is a collection of 20 tracks depicting her transitional journey as a woman, a goddess, a mother, a hip hop afficionada, a writer and a storyteller in these times. GEMS is MC Sharon's personal dedication to her legacy with the introduction of her protege son Jabali Tulani aka Jay the Rock into the Kenyan scene. It is also a statement that music freedom is necessary for soul survival and that a creative should be able to do what they want when they want. Shaping the trends rather than being shaped by them according to popular mass culture, MC Sharon goes in, out, over and under; utilising her singing, rapping and production skills to bring out a raw finesse that is only true to her brand of life. Enjoy.

It is a well blended hip hop, reggae and Afro soul crossover album which represents the best of both her musical worlds. With assistance from the other members of The Others Music Group, Hustlers Ground was moulded into a timeless gem. MC Sharon produced all the tracks For instance 4nz made the beat for the Intro ( and did a lil VOX too), Outro, A Mpaka Zee and Diamond. Eriko Korikkz Njeru, a long time associate and co founding member of Warriors Band was on Black Woman n Childe and Salvation was on The Lion Paw Riddim. Kimathi Marshall dropped a killer verse on Faya Kaya while Keyz and 4nz laced Juu Ya Geez. The then young lion Fanya Kweli spoke his truth on War. Thus this is reminiscent of the simplicity and fun aspects of music and will remain that way for a long time to come.

Africa. Afrika. Kemet. Kush. Alkebulan. To the rest of the world, this may be the Dark Continent, the Mother of all civilization and the epitome of squalor but to some 1.4 billion Alkebulanians, this is the only place they call home. Home is where the heart is. Home is also where the cerulean skies come down to kiss the brown earth below it. Home

Africa. Afrika. Kemet. Kush. Home is a place of beauty regardless of the challenges and tragedies that may unfold; a place where a plethora of cultures and people coexist and intertwine into a diverse hot pot of sugar, salt, pepper and spice. That, my friends is the real Alkebulan and all roads lead home. Alkebulanian in Alkebulan thus, is an 89, 427- word anthology which attempts to delve into the various bits and pieces of the Alkebulanian condition as well as experience. Set within the continent and also beyond it, assorted stories, poems and story interludes all come glued together by the progressive interdisciplinary mind that is Sharon Alai aka MC Sharon. Politics, sex, love, war, gender relations, feminism, FGM, religion, poverty, hate, mental health, culture, resilience, hope, despair and defiance all meet for dinner by the bonfire in this riveting page turner; and it’s as honest as it is filled with imagination, vividness, colour, emotion and an unapologetic vibe. Alkebulanian in Alkebulan is the second book by MC Sharon although she looks at it as her first and you’ll probably cry just as much as you will laugh. It is our duty to tell our Alkebulanian stories in our own ways without shame and this modern-day global African citizen’s perspective informs the desire to be a part of the collective African voice.
